2026: “Forests for the future: strategies for carbon sequestration”

2026: “Forests for the future: strategies for carbon sequestration” – an enriching NFZ Summerschool in hindsight

This year’s Summerschool went from 16th of August to the 21st of August, taking place at Monte Verità, Switzerland.

Applications were open to both scholars in academia (PhD students and early PostDocs) and professionals in the industry (R&D engineers) from various backgrounds, including climate, materials, energy, social, political and environmental sciences. The objective was for the participants to gain new insights for their own work from the other disciplines and discuss possible benefits of interdisciplinary approaches in their fields.

The program featured keynote lectures by internationally renowned experts from Switzerland and Germany including time for discussions, poster sessions and workshops. The main questions revolved around the potential of various carbon sequestration services of forests, such as in biomass, biochar and wood products. These subjects were researched and summarized into one-slide elevator pitches and posters, providing an opportunity to discuss the participants’ work with peers and experts.

We thank all organizers and participants for another successful Summerschool event and are looking forward to the next NFZ Summerschool in 2027.
