2026: Scientific Workshop: “Multiple Forest Risks”

2026: Scientific Workshop: “Multiple Forest Risks”

From 12 Oct. 2026 to 14 Oct. 2026

University of Freiburg / online

Organized by the IUFRO research group 4.04.07 and in cooperation with the TriNationalForestLab, this scientific workshop facilitates the exchange of the latest findings regarding multiple risks to forests associated with climate change and the impacts of extreme weather events.

Researchers from Germany, Switzerland, France, and Canada are gathering at the University of Freiburg from October 12th to 14th 2026. On the 13th of October the focus will be on the Central European perspective, featuring contributions to the simulation of extreme events and multiple risks, drought risks, and the climatology of winter storms as well as storm damage. On October 14th, a field trip to Friesenheim is planned to examine a case study on post-disturbance reforestation. For the afternoon session, the focus shifts towards the Canadian perspective, covering research topics on storm damage, disturbance interactions, fire, and the state of the timber market amidst climate risks. A concluding panel will discuss opportunities for collaborative research among the participating countries. The event will be held in a hybrid format (in-person and online).

This scientific workshop is part of the TriNationalForestLab event series and is supported by the VELUX Foundation, among others.
